Idea pitch

The project is necessary because the activities of informing and communicating the citizens of the rural area regarding the local decisions adopted by the local authorities, are deficient. We want to create a set of tools that will lead to the development of the interest of civil society, especially young people, in rural areas, by constantly participating in meetings to discuss issues facing the community and publishing a "Monthly Newsletter".

Where will your project idea take place?

Olt County, southern Romania-Danube meadow

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

Corabia is a town in Olt County, located on the left bank of the Danube, 80 km south of Slatina. The first documentary attestation of the locality dates from 1596, but traces of habitation h ave been discovered on its area since the Neolithic. Sucidava was destroyed by the Avars around 600 .The need we approach refers to the need for efficient information and communication of the decisions taken within the Local Councils within the communes. The weak concern and involvement of the inhabitants regarding the issues addressed at the Local level as well as the decisions taken at the mayor's office and the indifference of the local authorities to involve the inhabitants in actions and activities that could positively influence their lives, made the association is involved in addressing and prom

Who are you doing it for?

The target group (WG) will be chosen from the southern part of Romania, more precisely from the south of Olt county, Stefan cel Mare commune, Ianca Noua village (IN). The target group is part of the rural area and is in an insufficiently served area. Representatives of the A.P.C.U. The MENTOR found that there were no more non-governmental organizations to carry out civic activities in the area. So the inhabitants of this area have not been represented so far by any organization or foundation to support them in the public decision-making process. A number of about 150 citizens from the village of Ianca Noua of which: - 90 young people (14-35 years) - 30 women - 30 people over 55 years. This target group has been identified and will be selected through questionnaires, interviews, individual

How do you plan to get there?

The management activities will be provided by the management team. Organizing the information and promotion campaign of the project. Organizing focus groups to assess the specific situation for each category of participants,. Selection and establishment of collaborators (teachers, priest, etc.) who will participate in the project, Organizing and conducting seminars /trainings to contribute to the mobilization of citizens, local authorities and the local business environment to work together to solve certain concrete local problems. Initiating effective public consultations.. Design and multiplication of documents, necessary for the development of the project. Target Group Registration. Elaboration and monthly distribution of the "Monthly Newsletter", with in the commune

What are the expected results?

Understanding and acquiring the minimum knowledge necessary for the use of the right to information by citizens without training and with limited possibilities of existence. Creating skills for project participants to get involved in civic activities. Collaboration with local authorities in order to involve them in such activities promoted through this type of projects.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

The information and communication of the decisions taken by the local councils to the citizens of the rural environment is deficient. The association aims to help citizens be informed in real time and to debate the decisions taken by rural administrations, so that they are as representative as possible for the majority of the community. Decisions must be made for the majority of the community but not for a minority group in the community. A monthly newsletter will be developed, edited and distributed.

Why is this idea important to you?

I have worked for over 20 years in the Employment Agency and I know very well the area and the problems that people from this disadvantaged area of Romania face. I am vice-president of the association and I have implemented European-funded projects for disadvantaged people, including Roma people.
