Our school is really cool. There are students from 22 different nacionalities learning together. Many of the children bring different languages, religions, different cultures. One of the most basic needs is information. How does school work? How do I apply? What do I have to know on my first day? What do I have to bring everyday? These are some of their thoughts. What if we could share the view of children on these subjects to help newcomers feel more at home?

São Teotónio, Odemira

The need for workers in agriculture transformed the school in São Teotónio, Odemira. Portuguese students are a minority and the school is trying to deal with the integration of 22 different nationalities. Finding the first informations about school in a similar language is one of the crucial needs for foreign children.

The foreign children coming to São Teotónio will be our target group. But also the residents of São Teotónio who can share valuable information about how to manage daily life in the community.

Success would be to share the problems children face, inform and help finding some solutions. The communitiy would have a medium to show to new coming children how to manage in a new school environment.

Those who have been in San Teotonio longer, more integrated, are natural guides and translators. Sometimes they communicate in English. We would like to organize interviews with young people living longer in São Teotónio and edit them into videos to share them with children coming from other countries.
