Idea pitch

Volunteer center is like customer service for shoppers. We offer services in the field of volunteering with everything that goes with it. We connect organizations with volunteers. We communicate with volunteers and recommend them to organizations. We inform volunteers about their rights, obligations, ethical principles and ask about their expectations. We support and appreciate volunteers. We provide organizations with training on how to treat volunteers. We create tailor-made volunteer programs

Where will your project idea take place?

Bratislava region including small cities like Senec, Modra, Malacky, Pezinok, etc..

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

More and more people live in the Bratislava region. They most often come here to study and work. In a city full of new people, it is more difficult to make contacts and friendships, so many start volunteering. They know it from home and want to help here too. The problem, however, is that schools and companies consciously 'force' employees/ students into volunteering, but the offer of activities that would really develop their potential and stimulate good in them is minimal. Another current problem is the fact that many people have lost their jobs as a result of the corona crisis. Gradually, many will realize that volunteering is an opportunity not to fall out of the pace of work, respectively. volunteering becomes an opportunity to gain work experience and habits but also to feel useful.

Who are you doing it for?

Our project is focused on two target groups: primary and secondary.

Primary target groups: public, volunteers, organizations (NGOs, state, public, local governments ...)

Secondary: Clients of organizations assisted by volunteers (Families with children or members with serious illness, Families with children or members with disabilities, Seniors, Women and children experiencing domestic violence, victims of domestic violence, Low-income families and young people, People homeless, Residents of excluded localities, living in generational poverty, Foreigners, Injecting drug users and people working in the sex business, etc.)

How do you plan to get there?

The project is focused on the provision of services in the field of volunteering and has 4 interconnected parts that contribute to the improvement of services in the field. We will work in the following steps:
1. Promotion of volunteering
2. Consultations on volunteer programs
3. Implementation of volunteer programs
4. Motivation and appreciation of volunteers and their projects

What are the expected results?

With the growing awareness of the benefits of volunteering on the part of volunteers, the demands of volunteers in relation to the activities they carry out and the organizations that organize their activities will also grow. We anticipate that volunteers will expect better managed activities in the future and will choose the organization they will help accordingly. organizations, on the other hand, will strive to improve in their work and reap the benefits of an organization-volunteer-client relationship.

This project should create a cornerstone for the dissemination and sustainability of well-managed volunteer programs, projects and activities in organizations, as they will be adaptable to the latest trends in volunteer management.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

Volunteering contributes to social capital creation and strengthens social cohesion in society, for example by providing space for the social inclusion of marginalized groups, but also for meaningful use of leisure time of gainfully active citizens and the possibility of active participation of children and youth. Volunteering contributes to stability in society, for example by preventing social exclusion and preventing conflict. Volunteering is a key means by which individuals express their civic engagement and act as a factor in social integration. This and many more help to strengthen democracy and active citizenship.

Why is this idea important to you?

Volunteering is nothing new in our society. There is a lot of evidence in history that doing something selfless for another was part of the life and culture. Today, volunteering is becoming a phenomenon that is an alternative to solving many of human problems, a challenge for individuals and diverse groups of citizens, and a basis for building active citizenship. Volunteer centers began to be established in Slovakia after the fall of communism, and since then they have more or less successfully helped to increase the quality of volunteer programs and set the boundaries of what is volunteering and what is not. As the number of volunteers and the number of organizations that need their help increase, volunteering needs to become more and more professional. Besides that #volunteeringislove
