Idea

Idea pitch

Improving social conditions for people in impoverished regions - developing leadership skills, resilience, active citizenship and empathy, as well as improvement in family and community bonding through adventure training programs. Through intercultural dialogue, good self-esteem and leadership skills, we direct public attention to children and young people, their competence, value, protection, social inclusion and empowerment through rich training programs, promoting their well-b-being.

Where will your project idea take place?

In several small towns in North West Bulgaria Belogradchik, Dimovo, Varshets, Berkovitsa, Kozlodui

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

North West Bulgaria is in the bottom charts of the EU regarding economic and demographic situations. Vratsa, Vidin and Montana are the Bulgarian districts where the speed of population ageing is the fastest. Young people do not have the opportunity to study and work and they migrate and often do not return to their home places. In our project children and young people will have an opportunity to develop leadership skill and practice active citizenship in an attractive, playful setting, where they will have a chance to make an impact and improve the overall local situation.

Who are you doing it for?

The project is focused on children and young people, as well as small communities from different cultural and social backgrounds, where now children and young people are most vulnerable from the effects of the COVID-19 crises. Our mission is to empower those communities and social groups that are most prone to poverty, isolation and marginalization.Through intercultural dialogue, good self-esteem and leadership skills, we direct public attention to children and young people, their competence, value, protection, social inclusion and empowerment through rich training programs, promoting their well-being on a larger scale.

How do you plan to get there?

Through the promotion of rich adventure training programmes focused on empowerment of children and young people in these communities, this project sets a lasting change, both in the development of children and engaged adults, and in the overall social cohesion in the community. We are planning several activities:
Information meetings for parents and training meetings for teachers in the poorest regions
Weekly adventure training programs for children and young people
Trainings for adults and educators.

What are the expected results?

Emotional benefits - joy, resilience, stress management;
Developmental benefits such as rich cognitive skills, creativity, problem solving skills, mastering new concepts;
Personal development - confidence, self-esteem;
Social development - cooperation, conflict-solving skills, leadership
Language development - communication skills, vocabulary;
Educational benefits -skills, learning in a fun and enjoyable way, encouraging them to explore and discover together and on their own, allowing them to expand their experience and motivating children to experiment and take risks, providing opportunities for collaboration and learning
Through adventure training programs we encourage active citizens who build a local society
Promotion of active ecological education

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

Active citizenship is one of the most important steps towards healthy societies. Аctive citizenship is a combination of knowledge, attitude, skills and actions that aim to contribute to building and maintaining a democratic society. Active Citizenship supports democratic cooperation that is based on the acceptance of universal human rights and the rule of law, values diversity and includes the whole community. Training children as future leaders, developing and practicing these skills makes an impact on all levels of our shared social life, and we believe that is a necessary and an urgent step in those communities.

Why is this idea important to you?

We are a small community of teachers, parents, social workers and psychologists all united in the mission of the children's rights of well-being. We have seen how important it is for children in small, marginalized communities to have support and hope of this being possible. All activities focused on empowerment and inspiration are essential in these regions and we have seen how beneficial and transformative this can be.
