Food that we consume is now become less and less healthy due the the heavy use of pesticides. Food also often travels thousands of kilometers to reach our plates. In the meantime, there is available land in the vicinity of the main cities in Romania, in villages where marginalized communities do not have work and benefit from passive social contributions.
Ateliere Fara Frontiere proposes to develop social eco-certified peri-urban farms in Romania.
Ciocanari, part of Niculesti, Dambovita, Romania
Our objective is to offer work to the community, either on a permanent basis or on a part-time basis. We also want to organise dedicated trainings and courses for the community to access to education and knowledge.
We target 100 persons from the Ciocanari village to be trained in our courses.
We also intend to have 10 persons from the village hired full-time, as well as another 20 persons hire part-time in the summer season.
Growing a social farm in the heart of the marginalized community in Niculesti enables for the families to have an income, to have access to social benefits (health, pension), to have the means to offer their children access to education. The social farm is also a location where workshops will be carried out to education the community why eating healthy is important, how to respect nature with our daily actions, to organize workshops with children of the community to grow seedlings, and to organize course about personal financial management.
We expect to have 10 persons hired full-time, 20 persons hire part-time in the summer period, and 100 persons (adults and children) to be part to regular events and trainings organized at the farm.
The social farm will benefit from the local community to have access to trainings and education, some beneficiaries will have permanent income and will subsequently be able to offer education to their children.
Public authorities will be aware of the impact of social farm.
The farm has been running since 2015 focusing on vegetable production and recruitment of persons-in-needs. Daniel Niculica, engineer in horticulture, is running the farm.
