Idea

Idea pitch

Although the demonstrated benefits of physical activity (PA), there still exists many barriers for people with neurological diseases who want to engage in PA. Even increasing when referring to people living in rural areas and those unable to move on a weekly basis from their homes to a sport center. In this respect, an intuitive and easily accessible web platform can motivate people with no opportunity until now to do PA. Moreover, in the current circumstances we are facing.

Where will your project idea take place?

This project is aimed at anyone with internet access, specially for those without easy movement

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

This project tackle an important societal challenge, in a growing population in need of approaches to improve their HRQoL

Who are you doing it for?

This project is aimed at people with neurological diseases (acquired brain injury, alzheimer and multiple sclerosis), but also their families. This allows to be accessible to a large number of people from all over Spain, of different age and socio-economic situation.

How do you plan to get there?

A PA program oriented health program with web classes would increase HRQoL, physical and cognitive function of people with neurological diseases. To participate in online sessions, participants will have to connect via videoconference where the coach can observe the functional capacities to establish personal patterns and choose the most appropriate level of activity of the program with an original evaluation. There will be- four levels of activity according to the functional capacities of participants, those being level 1 for low physical and cognitive autonomy, and level four for high autonomy.
To assess the effect of the program on HRQoL the 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaire and the Profile of Mood States questionnaire (POMS) and Cognitive function will be measured

What are the expected results?

If we manage to develop our idea, thousands of people with neurological diseases will have access to physical activity. Previous studies suggest that this will have a positive impact on this population and their relatives. We will have generated a new, necessary, perennialadapted to their needs.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

Community integration and participation are key goals in the project.

Why is this idea important to you?

Marta Pérez comes from a rural area, where people with neurological diseases do not have access to face-to-face active leisure or physical activity program, and this proyect was born with the idea of responding to people in that situation
