Idea pitch

"MEDICAL CAPSULE"
is a facility where everyone, regardless of their location, can have a medical examination, contact doctor, get information, have a session with a psychologist, as well as a consultation with a social worker.

In addition to measuring basic vital data, such as blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxidation, blood sugar, you can have an electrocardiogram, a vision check, print prescription, leave samples for testing and buy first aid medicines.

Where will your project idea take place?

“St. Georgi Pobedonosets” Vocational School of Agriculture, Suvorovo, Bulgaria.

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

As you know, there is a lack of health services and medical staff in small towns and villages in the Balkans. After a study, it became clear that people living in small towns and villages have to travel many kilometre to receive health services or simple medical examination.

The early diagnosis of any disease is of great importance for its development, continuation, complication and elimination. Our research shows that young people between the ages of 18 and 35, as well as people over the age of 65, do not visit their GPs regularly.

Our main challenge is to grow habits in our students to take care of their own health with purpose of illness prevention and early diagnosis. The other problem we face is the lack of experience with technology by the older people in our community.

Who are you doing it for?

For all people regardless of age, gender, location or material status who need health or social services.

These are both the elderly in the small settlements, who have nowhere to go, and the busy working people in big cities, who do not have time to wait in front of the doctors' offices. They can be students in a school, or workers in a factory.

Everyone, at any time and in many places, will be able to receive health and social assistance.

How do you plan to get there?

This project started 2 months ago. At the moment we have the support of the school community, local government, non-governmental organization, the Ministry of Education, as well as the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. We have planned partnerships with two large private companies that have programs for projects of national matter.

After completing the prototype by the end of the year, it will take a year or two for improvements and software development that can be linked with national health program. We have also planned participation in various exhibitions and seminars in the country and in Europe.

What are the expected results?

The implementation of the project at local or national level will improve:
- health culture of the population
- prevention of illness
- early diagnosis
- human health in general.

After the construction of the prototype, we plan to cover 1000 students, as well as at least 50% of the population of the region (5000 people).

We expect the project to have great interest in all levels of community and to progress and upgrade over the next 5 years, as the problem is very acute, especially in a pandemic situation.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

Our project provides an opportunity for equality and achieving the same health standards for everyone, regardless of their location. Covering the absence of doctors, social workers, psychologists, as well as access to medication and information will give the public a feeling of security. This will greatly benefit both the physical and mental health of the population. In order for there to be a democratic and socially active community it first must be a healthy one.

We believe that with this project we will be taking a step toward achieving equality in constitutional rights regarding medical and social services and will have a positive effect not only on the local and national but also on the international level.

Why is this idea important to you?

The lack of medical centres and specialist in many areas. We live in 21 century and with all technology and communication we can't accept there isn't solution.

We as a team of students and teachers are focused on social problems, that can be changed with technology, innovation and creativity.

Every successful project make our local community more interested not just in the project we are working on, but in our school and education as all.
