Idea pitch

Homosexuality, racism, sex education, feminism, home violence, the death penalty, are forbidden words but not for us. „Let’s play TABOO” is a project that is not afraid to raise the taboo subject.
Participants will take part in meetings with professionals in their field.
We will also create w website that will allow the return to the "taboo" topics at every moment.
We will conduct a several-day training trip for young people living in small towns in the vicinity of Poznań.

Where will your project idea take place?

The project will take place in Poland in Greater Poland Voivodeship in schools and community centers

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

A few days ago Poland got an extremely inglorious title of the most homophobic country in the EU. We believe that every young person should have space to talk about themselves and have access to true information about the world. We want to help in growing a mature and aware society that will know how to talk and act with people that vary from them.

The region where the project will take place is closed to changes. Residents of small towns are afraid to talk about taboo subjects. This project would help people to build their own opinion, learn about the views of others. The second challenge is sometimes a lack of interpersonal skills. Another challenge is taking care of people’s mental health – we will provide some opportunities to meet a psychologist.

Who are you doing it for?

We deeply want to work with people from small cities/towns and villages, with
no age limits.

We are looking for any local groups which want to participate in this project. Everyone is welcome, our goal is to bring together people from different social backgrounds and let them know the point of view of each other and discuss important things. There will be some workshops dedicated only to younger or older people and only to men or women. Younger people will have an opportunity to discover their values and point of view – this will help them to expand their horizons.

How do you plan to get there?

We want to achieve the success of the project by implementing specific tasks:
- acquiring units for cooperation in small towns
- developing materials for participants and infographics
- training mentors in the form in which they will take place

We would like the workshops not to look like typical university lectures, but to be classes that strongly engage participants, they will be able to express their opinion at the beginning of discussions on a given topic, then listen to specialists and finally say their opinion again after thoroughly understanding the topic.

Also:
- creation of the project website with information and video materials
- conducting a training camp for young people, developing skills that help in conducting an open dialogue,
- conducting a Gala summarizing.

What are the expected results?

It would be a success for us if many people were already present at the meetings. This would mean that these topics are important and people want to talk about it. Thanks to this project, people's view of reality will change, they will broaden their horizons. W will rais awareness in local communities, and their engagement in social affairs. If this project will be a success we would start a dialogue between various people and improve their skills that they are using in their daily life.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

Citizens will learn, that everyone is worthy and its worth to meet new people because they can give them new perspectives on their daily activity. We also believe that this will be the first step to help them grow an engaged civil society, that participates in elections and are interested in developing their little homelands.

Another positive aspect of this idea is the fact that people will participate in themed workshops which would help to improve their skills useful in daily life such as assertiveness or interpersonal skills.

Through developed skills of dialogue they will start to work together.

Why is this idea important to you?

We all come from bigger and smaller cities, we want to make it a better place for living for others.

This idea is very important for us because we can start to connect a divided community, improve their skills, show then that someone is listening to them, and respect their point of view, everyone can learn something useful and new.
