Idea

Idea pitch

La Ciudad Imaginada (LCI) is a meeting space which critically and creatively tackles the transformation process of cities. It comprises two major lines of activity: a citizen’s laboratory where Valladolid residents collaboratively work on projects designed to improve city life; and diverse citizen-based workshops on social themes. Over the course of its two editions to date, LCI has brought together professionals and collectives that have contributed to creating a more habitable city.

Where will your project idea take place?

Valladolid, Castilla y León (Spain)

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

The programme events will take place in Valladolid, a city in which local neighbourhoods play a particularly vital role. In the past edition of LCI, one of the initiatives on which work was undertaken was Pajarillos Educa, a platform which now brings together the 12 educational communities that represent the 40 different nationalities found in the Pajarillos district of Valladolid. In the new edition of La Ciudad Imaginada, the commitment to Pajarillos Educa will be strengthened to foster the implementation of technological projects in socially disadvantages neighbourhoods.

Who are you doing it for?

La Ciudad Imaginada is an ongoing project targeted at local neighbourhood associations, public and private bodies, teachers and students, architects, sociologists, culture managers and environmental experts.

How do you plan to get there?

La Ciudad Imaginada (The Imagined City) has connected in its latest editions all the entire city network. Since the first call to present projects and ideas for the city begins, through our social media and communication channels, citizenship is quickly activated.

What are the expected results?

We think it's essential to count on the back of an international organization because La Ciudad Imaginada (The Imagined City) was born as a project that, although it acted locally, it looked at projects and initiatives around the world. Both, citizens and sponsors of the project would see this aid as a big support to the project being included in an international network.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

The origin of La Ciudad Imaginada (The Imagined City) is in the huge social movement that exists in Valladolid city. Many collectives and citizen associations work in all the neighborhoods of Valladolid. The Imagined City is an unique place to connect all these groups and initiatives that operate in order to build a healthier and more democratic city.

Why is this idea important to you?

La Ciudad Imaginada (The Imagined City) was born to connect the neighborhood and associative movement with the institutions in order to achieve a more ambitious city collaboratively.
