Idea pitch

Our goal is work with young and old people in rural world, trying to reach an empowerment specially of women, getting new ways for reaching equal masculinity and avoid gender violence working mutual understanding. Also we will try to break prejudice over groups of age, specially ageism, trying to promove knowledge about youth and older people breaking stereotypes.
We will use workshops of sexual education and new technologies. Also we would use films forums working by side and later together.

Where will your project idea take place?

Our region is Castilla y León, in Spain, the large region in Europe, and we will focus on rural area

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

This rural area has a low density population, most are older people and villages are far from each other. We are trying to improve a few problems:
Prejudice from young to old people and ageism, and from old people to youth.
Also is very important sexual education promoving equal relationships, knowing each body at different stages of life, and different sexual orientation, and exchange of experiences about equal masculinity, women empowerment or gender violence.
New technologies are also a problem for old people, in this time of covid19 is very important to avoid loneliness, and for many administrative items is necessary, so young people could teach and cooperate with old one.
All the ideas would contribute to societal cohesion, more empathy and deepen democracy.

Who are you doing it for?

We´ll try to get networking between day centers for senior or cultural associations, for example, with schools or universities, revaluing the view of the others and promove respect to diversity. And we will try to work with the council, parents or mothers of young people, teachers from school… The goal is work with the community as much as possible.

How do you plan to get there?

First step would be contact with provincial administrations, association and schools we have work before and generate networks to improve the project. We will have to get working meeting to explain the project and initialize contacts.
To implement the project we will have different workshops, by side with young or older people, and later together. After all the process, in every group would create photographies and short texst where we could collect their experiences and learnings.

What are the expected results?

The main change would be the knowledge all those involved we will have, from administration to us, and, specially, people who take part in workshops. We have learned from experience, that is a good way for knowing him or herself, and create better relationships. Also it would restore the importance of older people in rural life.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

This idea will try to put in common different ways of life, trying to understand the other´s reasons and changing toxic relationships or behaviours, preconceived ideas. Also it would detect violence. It would promote the need of care, and reach egalitarian relationships.
In addition we will use new technologies, younger people would teach older in a way of learning service, promoting participation and benefits.

Why is this idea important to you?

This idea is important for us because is a way for implementing education for development in a rural area, with focus on sexual rights and gender equality, working together people of different ages.
We would like that covid19 could change our mind revaluing older people, slow food, environment, dialogue, equality, differents ways of being men and women, and sexual diversity.
