Idea pitch

“Finding my Balance” empowers women in their 30s and 50s to find strength in themselves - knowing they have the power to overcome obstacles, reach their potential, and create an impact. We offer group workshops on topics such as building resilience through introspection, goal setting strategies that work for us, ways to deal with unwanted thoughts and feelings, developing mindfulness so we can break free of old patterns of self-defeaf-defeatism among others.

Where will your project idea take place?

Zasavje region, central part of Slovenia.

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

As we mentioned before Zasavje is an old industrial region where there was no need to develop yourself as a self employed or a business owner in the past . Up till 30 years ago there were always steady jobs available in big industrial companies and people were also raised in the way - “go to school and you will get a job”. After the independence the situation changed drastically and changing the mindset of people here is a long lasting process. With this project we want to boost up this process, help and support women in their 30s and 50s to find strength in themselves - knowing they have the power to overcome obstacles, reach their potential, and create an impact. We believe that changing the mindset of women will influence the perspective of people around them and their children.

Who are you doing it for?

The key target group of our project are women aged 30-50. Women are in most cases the ones who work in less paid jobs, take care of the households, children and sometimes even older generation and they as individuals regarding the personal time suffered the most also during the covid-19 pandemic (https://www.womenlobby.org).
We want to build a safe space for them and support them on the path of becoming the best version of themselves. We will include at least 30 women of different age, social, ethnic and economic backgrounds, who want to reach their potential, and create an impact and have the will and courage to discover their passion and develop themselves personally, in their relationships as well as become an active citizen in our local community as social entrepreneurs.

How do you plan to get there?

We will establish an ongoing program for empowerment of women by providing them with skills for better understanding one-self, better communication as well as giving them skills and knowledge to act and contribute for the better of their community. We will implement our action plan through 6 activities:
1. Promotion - finding participants through different online and offline channels (Oct. 2021).
2. “Singular” - self understanding, development and reflection (Nov 2021 – Jan. 2022).
3. “Dual” - communication with partners, children and close ones (Feb.- May 2022).
4. “Plural” - communication with the wider community and what the participants can contribute, develop, change in it (May – June 2022).
5. Developing their passion is focused on project management that will teach participants how to organize and carry out projects in their local community for the greater good (June – Sept. 2022).
6. Final event - implement their entrepreneur ideas and dissemination (Oct. 2022).
The program consist of different types of workshops, study visits, coaching sessions & task related work at home. We will use creative tools, bodily-kinesthetic skill development, verbal skills, project management, naturalistic competences, development of emotional intelligence. We will work through the modul of multi intelligence theory that strives to develop different types of in each participant.

What are the expected results?

In the end result of our program for women our community will be richer with more empowered women who can act and make changes for themselves and in their living environments. The main expected results of the program is that by the end of the program our participants will create their own social entrepreneur project idea and execute it (ex. charity event, community related events, inclusion related activities, pop up shop etc.). This will be possible as they will be equipped with competences to to make better changes in their lives and their community.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

Our project involves a design of an ongoing program for empowering women to live to their potential, to live more happy and fulfilled lives and connect their need to the needs of their community. We see participants as change makers who will be more capable of carrying out actions that involve social engagement and identification and understanding of their own needs that link to the community's needs. We will reach our goal by implementing the action plan of 6 activities that is based on developing intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. Good part of our program will also concentrate on project management skills and teaching our participants how to execute their own social entrepreneur ideas that benefit them and the community they live in.
