Idea

Idea pitch

Community Garden is THE place for authentic interaction in the urban space.
Community Garden is at the same time an urban garden enjoying the benefits of self sustainability and a place for social interaction, high quality debates, exchange of ideas and learning.
The space offers a non-partisan safe space for high quality dialogues and socializing wit all the types of members of our city's community.
Community Garden is both urban gardening and community in one.

Where will your project idea take place?

Timisoara, West Romania

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

We aim to tackle the lack of connectedness of local actors by facilitating high quality debate and learning events and community-building.

Who are you doing it for?

Young students and community leaders.

How do you plan to get there?

Our activities will include:
1. Cleaning up the area;
2. Bring experts to advise on the soil quality and on the decor possibilities;
3. Purchashing the equipment needed and preparing the garden;
4. Planting the garden and decorating the area;
5. Finding the beverage provider and creating the contract for our supply
6. The official launch of the garden
7. Events for socializing and community building with specific topics to be discussed on specific weeks
8. Opening the garden for as many interested individuals as possible

What are the expected results?

Our intended results shall be:
1. The physical space (the garden where people will be able to meet)
2. The cohesion within and across community groups in Timisoara, and the ability of as many people as possible to engage in debate and higher level conversations the norm.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

By creating community exposure to diverse views and engagement in dialogue on social, political, economic and environmental issues; by inviting topic experts to train and inspire; by public communication and community social and civic engagement campaigns and events; and by leading different civic actions, helping the public tackle certain issues with the information and knowledge gathered from these networks. There will be educational weeks in which we would tackle how various institutions work, while also bringing in people from these domains to answer questions from the general public. The events will be filmed, edited and then posted on social platforms so the people within the community that were not there would also learn from the discussions.
