Idea

Idea pitch

Our city is located in the agglomeration of the capital. There are many residents who have moved here in recent years from the large city. Their connection is mainly with people and organizations of their former residence.
Our goal is to involve them as much as possible in the community life of our city.
If we succeed in strengthening the local identity of people, they will wish greater participation in our civic life, which can lead to the strengthening of civic engagement.

Where will your project idea take place?

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

In addition to our town, neighbouring settlements are in same situation terms of population composition.
As we are in good connection with them, we want to achieve the effects of the planned project there as well.
According our plan we will involve them into some events of them project.
Our most significant common problem is that the Hungarian government does not respect NGOs. The current law makes it difficult for civic communities to operate. This system is also adopted by the majority of municipalities. We know the well-being of a settlement depends largely on the cooperation of the local government and civic organizations.

Who are you doing it for?

The aim of the project is also important for the natives of the settlement and for the newcomers. We can achieve a special impact by involving the young people of the two groups. Cooperation can result in common goals that influence the decisions of the municipality and thus contribute to the development of the city.

How do you plan to get there?

We organize a program evening with local professional and amateur actors. We know a significant part of these, but we are calling for someone who is talented to take action as well.
We organize exhibitions for artisans and collectors here, to which the settlers can also apply.
We give public lectures on the past of the town, in which there was a camp. Many people know that this was the largest internment camp in the country. There will also be a presentation of a book containing information of the camp’s work, and the results of our research.
We organize craft courses. The pieces made here will also be presented at an exhibition.
These programs involve people who are active in these fields and those who are interested in these themes. This also applies to old residents and those who have recently moved here. This process brings together the residents here, through which their common needs for the development of the social life of the settlement come to the fore in their communication. Our activities lead to the development of local democracy.
We will erect a monument to the past of the settlement, which requires the permission of the municipality, and we will cooperate during the implementation.
Our close relationship with the local government results in the development of democracy.
In connection with the project, we will hold extraordinary classes at the local school

What are the expected results?

During the implementation of the project, the relationship between the active members of the population develops significantly. Topics for frequent communication will include ideas aimed at improving the social life of the settlement. As these proposals come from citizens and organizations representing a significant part of the population, they will have an impact on the municipality.
As a result of the relations that developed during the project, the municipality contributes to the implementation of the positive proposals.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

People’s well-being is significantly affected by community life. Research has shown that people who are members of a community live longer. So people’s mood is not most affected by wealth.
Our goal is to improve the well-being of the people in our association and in other organizations of the settlement as well.
In community life, the expression of opinions about the life around us plays an important role in discussions, workshops or even in debates. These skills acquired in the community will make people more courageous and they will be able to express their opinions, proposals in front of a larger public.
Over time, they will also be able to make decisions.

Why is this idea important to you?

I born in this settlement and several generations of my ancestors lived here.
I have loved community life since I was a child, which I also experienced during my school years. After completing my studies, I organized a cultural club, which was closed down after a few months for artificial political reasons.
After downloading my military time, I formed a club for cognizance of movie art, during which we were able to watch films that were not public for political or legal reasons.
Under socialism, NGOs could not function. Following the change of regime, we formed a cultural association, of which I have been the continuously president since 1993. Core members have similar impressions as me, and do a lot to improve community life.
I am a well-known person in connection with my activities.
