Idea pitch

We will creatively help young European generations to improve their social involvement, perception and understanding to help them be protagonist of a better future for their community.

Where will your project idea take place?

Castilla y León, Spain

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

To reconnect them with their community, we want to give young generations of rural areas audiovisual tools and knowledge to empower them to share their own views about their community in a creative and fulfilling manner. Together with that, we will invite them to relate to different realities and learn first hand about subjects like tolerance, social inclusion and diversity. This experiences will also provide them with new creative ways to interact with their society and make visible their own perspectives.

Who are you doing it for?

Our main objective is to provide important knowledge and tools for your generations in rural areas, but we hope with the use of those they will have a positive impact for their community and society as a whole.

How do you plan to get there?

Guided by experts, specialists and members of socially relevant entities like migration and refugee organisations, together with the mentorship of key documentary filmmakers, we will create short audiovisual documentary trainings and courses specially designed for young European citizens.
The objective of the courses will be to help raise awareness of those subjects and provide students with knowledge and tools to make their own films about it. Thanks to that they will develop and share their views and perspectives about key contemporary european challenges.
Those initial stages of the courses will take place in schools and community centres under the supervision of teachers and mentors.
In guided practical tests, young students will apply their new knowledge and skills interviewing people from different backgrounds and experiences, on location.
In those interviews and reports, the interviewees will share their life and experiences with the young students. As a result, the students will create short documentary films while learning first hand about the reality of the subject. (All this authorised and under the guidance and supervision of members of NGOs and official institutions taking part in the project).
After that, they will screen their films in schools and community centres sharing their experiences with the audience and trying to find together positive solutions.

What are the expected results?

The core activities of our project will have a direct impact on young European citizens providing them with useful skills and tools to express themselves and share their views about key subjects, together with offering them access to key knowledge and understanding about fundamental challenges for them and their territory.
All this will help them to be better prepared for their own future.
A parallel impact of our project will be for the institutions participating. Our proposal will provide them with new positive ways to connect and raise awareness among new generations about the reality of their work and challenges the are facing. This will invite them to empathise with them, and motivate them to join the work on those challenges to solve them together.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

Our project will collaborate to create more diverse and participative communities by helping them to know and learn about other realities. Also by being able to express their views, young people will understand the value, importance and positive impact of raising their own voice and be integral part of their society.

Why is this idea important to you?

Motivated by the potential of cinema as a fundamental tool for social development and education, we have worked for more than a decade on a variety of projects helping communities improve their life with culture as our main tool.
In addition, as independent entrepreneurs we have managed to create, program and coordinate our own international projects founding initiatives like Ciclos de Cine Cercano.
Thanks to that, we have acquired a versatile set of skills and a solid network of contacts at international level. A few years ago we took the opportunity to return to Europe moved by our aim to collaborate solving its contemporary challenges. To achieve that, we are working locally as part of communities to improve their access to cultural diversity and prepare for a better future.
