PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY for a SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Despite Representative Democracy is a great passion of modernity, we fear that it can slide towards authoritarian sovereignty and populism, if it does not evolve soon into a Participatory Democracy.

2.Create a body for educating, implementing & protecting democratic rights within a community.

4.Incorporating the innovations using digital transformations to educate on civil rights and responsibilities.
5.Share the best practices via Knowledge Transfer & Exchange (KTE)

Where will your project idea take place?

The City of Mesagne, Italy, as an innovative sustainable meta-model for neighboring communities

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

Amongst the many societal challenges that Italy faces, the Apulia region is dreadfully affected by unemployment (14.9% in 2019 stated by European statistics) and exposure to the outer world. This challenge begins from the educational settings which fail to provide vocation-oriented perspectives from a very young age as the ratio equals to the younger generation of the Country. The other challenge is Education and training with respect to present trends based on the requirements using digital technologies. Making the public to get aware of the rights and responsibilities of being an active citizen.

Who are you doing it for?

The main target for this project is the younger citizens with an age group of 12 to 25-year-olds which contribute 15-20% of the total Italian population (for a period of 2009-2019) who are pursuing their higher secondary and above as they are the future of the nation, it is important for them to understand be a part of this change for the sake of better future.

How do you plan to get there?

The objectives of this project are based on the key elements of democracy by incorporating the awareness of Participative Democracy amongst the younger citizens, as they are the nation`s future. We will be adopting various traditional yet unconventional methodologies, firstly raising awareness about democracy through workshops & virtual conferences, with innovative approaches such as "World Café". A technological platform will be created for the liaison of the local & regional organizations with democratic ideologies. A committee or a non-governing body with professionals with expertise in democracy & civic rights is established to periodically deliver all these duties, evaluate & update by publishing online. Finally, the DocPP will be published through the communication channels.
In addition to the traditional communication tools, we will use digital technologies for reaching a larger audience. An interactive platform will be dedicated to the project, to stimulate e-democracy with networking and mailing actions. The link will be on the institutional homepage of the involved Municipality

What are the expected results?

If the idea is selected, it is affirmative to give profound and remarkable results in terms of improvement in people awareness, participation, integration between citizens and organizations for a strategic and sustainable future. In addition to this, we will create an astonishing network equipped with ideologies and connections among the local communities towards a common gamut of goals. Furthermore, it will be an inspiring and motivating venture for the public sector and citizens to look up to as it preaches and practices the ideology of mutual cooperation for resolving any future hurdles.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

During the past two decades, there have been a number of significant crises of Representative Democracy across Europe. Nowadays, it is calling out for help! Having understood the depth and urge of the issue, we have designed this project despite the economic scarcity. It will be implemented with efficiency, thus it can bring profound and imperishable results that will contribute to building a stronger European Democracy. Our project creates plenty of benefits with respect both to citizens and communities. Our project not only creates exceptional social cohesion and cooperation among different clusters of communities but also gives the citizen a great opportunity to implement their power in changing their own lives by becoming participative and responsible citizens in a Democracy.

Why is this idea important to you?

For the Democracy to reign it needs the support of not only citizens but also volunteer service centres, local and regional organizations which must provide participation initiatives & ventures to inculcate the active citizenship. But unfortunately, they are failing to do so and even though many unions and parties have been established so far, the progress concerning the democracy is very minimal. We are a team of five with well-versed skillset of Social and civic Rights and responsibilities, Expertise in Voluntary Social networks, Project management and Scientists in different domains. We use OPM2 approach to attain the better possible solutions to bring the idea to life with multiple partner connections with a single mission of achieving the better results all together.
