Idea pitch

The main objective is creating an independent women´s community in four regions in Moravian-Silesian Region and one in Olomouc region for regulary meetings to solve controversial topics (forest kindergartens, vaccinations, financial independence, ..) We want to give women an opportunity to influence the majority opinion in society and also to give them a chance in facilitating social change and a change of stereotypical behavior patterns by providing education and safe space for discussion.

Where will your project idea take place?

Czech Republic - Moravia-Silesion Region, especially Frydek-Mistek, Trinec, Koprivnice, etc.

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

The Moravian-silesian region is significantly influenced by its history. Typical occupation in this region was mining. The men worked hard while the women were looking after kids at home. The women became completely dependent on their men, they didn't have any ambition to search for a job, because they didn’t have to. With the decline of mining and also with a change of mindset of the population, women became inspired by other foreign models of the family.
This model of the family in which the woman doesn’t work and stays at home with the children is still deeply rooted in our region. By our discussion forums we want to change how the society looks at employed women. These women try hard to juggle work and children. We want to show i tis normal to be a different mom.

Who are you doing it for?

The primary target group are moms caring for a child who want to discuss and who feel that they have something to say to other people. We want to give civil society the opportunity to discuss on different topics in a safe environment and by this discussion we want to eliminate prejudices and misunderstandings. By breaking down established stereotypes we will push society a little further into tolerance for other different groups. We want to focus on controversial topics – alternative education, mother working as a manager, vaccination, emancipation, etc.

How do you plan to get there?

A team of profesional women will be created. The team will meet regulary for period of 3 months in Lumpikov. All important topics will be discussed (maternity and work, kindergarten, vaccination) Another part of the program is a professional training from eg. PR, leading of a group etc. There are planned 6 meetings in four regions since April to November in total. The meetings will be held concrette locations and lead by lectors. The meetings are primarily determine for general public, which will be addressed via social nets, local media etc. The aim is to create a safety space, in terms of which the participants could have a discussion on actual controversial topics. The main aim and focus is to eliminate public prejudice to different approaches to education.

What are the expected results?

We would like to add self-confidence to women´s as well as to support them in their own opinions and teach them how to form a decision or opinion correctly and help them not be afraid of speaking in public. We don´t want the society in our region to see mother only as someone who brings up the children, as a person without its own opinion, political persuasion, self-confidence and financial independence. Out goal is to show society that mothers of children have lots to say. No matter if they chose to be super-manager mums or to homeschool their children and try to live alternative lifestyle. By launching this project, we want to create discussion forums, which we hope will still work after this project ends, because people will become aware of the forums.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

In this project, we will address civil society through open discussion meetings. Mothers who discuss various topics will gain more confidence, insight and self-confidence. They will be determined that your life may be attacked, which they have feared so far. We want to look for femininity in women and give them incentives to be more active, determined and tolerant citizens, who then initiate various changes in society themselves.

We want to women to be involved in public affairs, not afraid to discuss and influence their region with their experiences and opinions.

Why is this idea important to you?

Our main motivation is to work with women who have been on maternity leave for a long time. Women who have lost self-confidence and haven´t been able to find a new job. The biggest reward for us is to see how motivated, happy, full of energy and self-confidence the women are after finishing our courses. Since we were established a plenty of training programs have taken place but honestly until now we haven’t had a chance to bring into life the idea of community meetings which could happen in different places of our region. We know that we are successful in what we do, therefore we would like to share our experiences with other people in order to make changes in society not only in Frydek-Mistek, but also in different regions.
