Idea pitch

„Let us discuss“ aims at children and their parents which are facing the divorce and offer them the possibility to share their ideas, meanings, feelings to the others through social dialog beween them and professional public. There is wide range of opinions and actors in the issue and include many disagreement dialogues in the field of participation child in divorce. The approach to achieve the skills to the most important link to professional public (justice, government, social workers).

Where will your project idea take place?

Frýdek-Místek and Nový Jičín, Moravian Silesian region, Czech Republic

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

Nový Jičín was the first region in CR to start spreading around the idea of the attitude in divorcing. It was inspired by the practise of the German collegues, which focuses on the partnership of engaged people, give the parents arguments to solve divorce and care of their children on their own not by court by directive regulation. During last three years we succesfully implemented this idea to our region but it is necessary to support it continuously and to make it natural for the public.
As a part of the citizens' initiative, we want to stimulate a debate on the level of involvement of the child in parents' divorce disputes and thus make civil society thinks about this problem and forces citizens to make decisions about their lives on their own

Who are you doing it for?

Our project "Let us discuss" is mostly focused on under age children and their parents in divorce. Because they are the most important acters in this dispute and they affect how the children will be feels about the divorce and after it.
On the other site are an experts, which use well estabished legislative procedures which do not reflect the needs of non-professional public.
We would like to open the discusion of involving child in parental dispute thus open cross sectorial discusion between experts and public and thus change the mind of the experts and reflect the outputs from parents and non-professional public

How do you plan to get there?

We will organise 4 workshops for non-professional public to share our experience from the previous project and outputs of the research. Garants of this will be judge, social workers and mediators.
We will create the platform for the safe discussion between parents and childrens that will be managed by person in the new center.
Within this platform, qualitative and quantitative research will be carried out (data of divorced and divorcing parents, children of divorced parents) and subsequently the conclusions will be discussed with experts.
We will create the metodological materials for parents and children as well.

What are the expected results?

We don´t want to replace professional service in parental disputes. Our aim is to collect knowledge and information from parents and children.
We would like to change the attitude of civil society in the field of involving children to disputes and, secondarily, the attitude of the professional public.
The topic of children's participation is not clearly defined in the professional public, and therefore we focus mainly on the general public, which is going through a divorce dispute, and which can pass on its experience, which can significantly contribute to creating professional practices.
The main aim of the project is to engaged civic society to think about the extend of involving under age child to proces of divorce and what impact it has on his mental health.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

This collaboration will give the possibility to learn about the consequences about wrong civic behavior and also that people have the possibility to renew their lives and restore. We want to make an accent on parental roles, to force parents to overtake full responsibility in making decisions which deeply influence the lives of their under age child. We want to give children information of what they can do during the divorce, that they can reject participation on it and that they are not obligate to answer the question like „ do you want to stay with mother or with father“.
We want to launch the discussion of non-profesional public on this matter and pass their outputs tu experts to change their well estabished procedures.

Why is this idea important to you?

Our project is interesting because it is based on our personal experience, and also because we are the authors of the introduction of interdisciplinary cooperation with the use of elements of the Cochem model in resolving parental disputes in practice. We know from our knowledge and experience that there is no initiative that would help spread this idea among the general public. We respond to the findings, namely the need to connect the lay and professional public, which can enrich each other. The professional public lacks information from divorcing parents, which will help evaluate the success of the implemented processes. The voice of a child in a divorce dispute is also not heard. Conclusions and opinions about children are made without their participation, which we want to change
