Idea pitch

Five-day simulation game experience - creating a new world.
For youngsters from Zalău area, learning about themselves, deepening their knowledge how we can influence each other. How we can be more inclusive and open as a society and each other by bringing awareness towards the importance of self-love, self-respect, damaging effect of bullying on young people's development and valuable experiences by creating community with a proactive attitude towards life and civic activities.

Where will your project idea take place?

Zalau and Rural Area around it, Salaj county, North-West Romania.

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

Zalau is the smallest municipality of North-West Romania and it is quite underdeveloped. It has always been in the shadow of its neighbour Cluj county that is a University Centre. Regarding democracy and societal cohesion, Zalau struggles with strong migration and very few NGOs or local events/initiatives. It is a city with 2 malls but 0 cinema or youth centres.

Who are you doing it for?

The main target group is youngsters with fewer opportunities, those in risk groups, coming from adverse condition families, minorities and LGBTQ+ spectrum youngsters.
Youngsters who have experienced and been part of bullying. Both those who have been bullied and those who have been / is bullies. Those who can sometimes feel excluded and not understood.
Those who feel that they want to create something, but are not fully aware of their abilities and how they can express themselves in positive manner and creating sustainable results .

How do you plan to get there?

The main methods we are going to use is simulations and gamification.
All together we are going to create new society, new world. The Hanabi tribe! The first step will be call for the 5 days training experience. We will make a kit where we will explain the whole process and what does the camp requires and offers. The pillars of the Youth Centre will be build during the 5 days camp.

What are the expected results?

Give the youth tools to collaborate and problem-solve, brainstorm and reflect.
Encourage them to use their passions for good.
Guide them to believe that their voice matters without judging or criticizing their ideas.
Young people need the opportunity to develop the skills and competences which help them to find their place in the labour market and in society as a whole.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

With this camp, we want to show youngsters the importance of how important it is to take care of themselves and their communities. Encourage proactive mindset and involvement in creating and being active members of local societies. We want to work on creating a local culture where youngsters always lift each other up. In this vein, use the Youth Centre to promote positive messages and European values. A youth centre is important because promotes a sense of ownership and freedom of expression for various social and cultural activities, including performance and social spaces for life skills, recreation and social interaction and inclusion.

Why is this idea important to you?

Growing up we have experienced bullying and realized how it has negatively affected us also going into adulthood. How sometimes being in toxic surrounding can lead to bad decisions. A lack of self-confidence and self-esteem can be immobilizing. It may result in drawing inwards frustration if things do not go to plan, and even anger. Going through these experiences we have acknowledged that it has thought us a lot, however there can be more uplifting way. If instead of working with consequences, we work on prevention of bullying. We want to show youngsters that through self awareness and self love we can create so much more, create and be more inclusive community that can lead to grate society.
We truly believe that everyone has great power inside of them!
