Idea pitch

There is a lot of talk and projects to empower women, but most of them happen in centers of knowledge and power - in big cities. Women on the outskirts or in rural areas are left to fend for themselves. And our commitment is to change that. With a traveling office (converted bus to office), we will visit the most remote places and help individuals or local women’s associations with our knowledge, connections, advice and support. In one year we will visit 33 villages in Slovenia and Croatia.

Where will your project idea take place?

17 remote villages in Slovenia and 16 remote villages in Croatia

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

We are tackling the challenge of over-centralizing knowledge and power in these two countries. This topic has been raised many times, but there have never been concrete solutions on the ground. Women are most exposed here, as they are often tied to time and locally due to family and household responsibilities. Through the research, we received a very positive response regarding the mobile or travel office for women. Support was also expressed by local authorities. At the same time, this is a project that we will develop, upgrade and visit several remote locations every year. We want as many women as possible to be empowered to become active citizens.

Who are you doing it for?

Our target group is educated women and women between 25 and 40 years of age. These women feel most powerless in rural areas. They do not have the same interlocutors, they are overburdened with family and household, or they have given in to the rhythm of life, which is too fast for changes or additional activities. At least they think so because they don’t know and don’t know elsewhere.

How do you plan to get there?

The project strategy consists of three parts: preparation and launch of the project for the public, consultation with local authorities and NGOs, project implementation and reporting.
Steps will be: purchase and processing of the bus, website, profiles on social networks, roadmap, press conference, interviews, implementation of the project in the villages, first Slovenia then Croatia, publishing on our media, publishing on other online platforms, interviews, final report.
We will constantly work with local authorities and partners who will additionally support our project (ministries, universities, companies).

What are the expected results?

As already mentioned, we will finally put into practice a project to empower women from rural areas. After one year, after all the visits to the village, we see a change in independence, determination and progress in the personal field as well as in the field of greater activity for the social good. There will be less distress, less stress, even less violence.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

Empowering women means giving them knowledge, information, tools on how to reach their potential and become an active and responsible citizen. At the same time, we are always available for them. Our visits will be designed to encourage the activation of individuals as well as groups. To activate for oneself and for the social good. For only an active citizen can contribute to the implementation of democracy in the full sense. We are aware that empowering women means that we also empower her children, her loved ones. We know, however, that without help, women will not become active because they are too attached to their current daily lives, because they have neither the power nor the knowledge, because most of them do not believe in themselves.

Why is this idea important to you?

For us, this project is important because it is a project that supports all our other projects. At the same time, it is a great “tool” for social research. It is also a kind of base for the operation of our partner organizations. Our main goal is the empowerment of women and we see this project as more than an excellent opportunity to do so.
