Idea pitch

The objective of this project is to create a common ground between Migrants and Local Italian citizens. Since ancient times, theater has been the main way to put out in society the problems that are affecting her. Our association will introduce the Italian ground into performing arts/plays from various foreign origins, who will help to see why a certain social event as immigration is happening so intensively in the last years, with no improvement for the immigrant countries.

Where will your project idea take place?

Lombardia

What is the specific societal challenge faced by this region?

One of the greatest challenges of integration between foreigners and locals is the communication barrier. One not being able to understand the other’s point of view can be a great hindrance to effective communication.

Who are you doing it for?

The first step would be to help our migrant actors to improve their Italian Language’s diction and various communication skills. Then of course we would be practicing through numerous provas, plays from various migrant countries of origin and eventually perform them in theaters to achieve the awareness we all need.
It will all be translated in Italian Language so in this case we will try to put together both parties in a certain moment of empathy and respect one to each other, a deep reciprocal willing to break the barriers and finally get together for the best of the future.

How do you plan to get there?

The goal of this project is a bilateral education of both foreigners and locals on the similarities, differences and difficulties of both parties. This can be achieved through various public rehearsals of plays from various migrants origins with the aim of eventually having a stage performance of a foreign play on the theme of Immigration. This last part, which is the fruit of our project will be video recorded and reproduced through social media, thereby offering a larger and long lasting audience

What are the expected results?

The first tangible result would be an improvement of the communication skills; enhanced relationships and interactions with both locals and other foreigners.
This would build confidence and curiosity among locals rather than distrusts and premature judgements. The other way around, more openness among locals towards the migrants would mean more migrants willing to share their stories, interact and consequently learn the laws, history and culture of the locals.

How does your idea strengthen active citizenship at a local and community level?

The aim of this project is that of clarifying stereotypes between locals and foreigners.
An effective communication capability by the foreigners would help to make and direct confrontation between both groups more likely and productive. Intercultural interactions would help reduce the differences between cultures and ways of life of both parties.
