We are very pleased to announce that 19 project ideas won the Idea Challenge 2020. Have a look in the Idea Space to see the winners and read why their local communities need them right now. They demonstrate a broad portfolio of topics including civic participation, migration, social inclusion, sustainability, and many more.
Our funding partner, Stiftung Mercator, generously decided to support the Idea Challenge with additional funds due to the high number of applications and the difficult situation for civil society caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This allowed us to fund more project ideas than the originally announced up to 15!
The application phase has now come to an end but the journey for the winners is just beginning: The Civic Europe Idea Challenge will now assist the winning ideas until the end of 2021 by providing them not only with funding, but also with mentoring and capacity building to implement their project ideas. We are super excited and looking forward to working with the winning projects.
From beginning of June until end of July our reading team selected, from a remarkable 841 applications, 40 project ideas for the shortlist. On September 22, the jury meeting took place and our eight-member jury of various civil society experts decided finally on the 19 winners. Thank you to the jury members Bernd Hüttemann, Ewa Kulik-Bielińska, Željka Markulin, Luisa Elsig, Annegret Wulff, Louisa Slavkova, Sergiu Panainte and Ondřej Liška for the high level of energy, passion and dedication they invested in preparing as well as for participating in the full-day online jury meeting.
We are happy to announce that the Village Membership Club won the Community Award 2020. Their project idea "Empowering rural women" convinced 129 supporters from the applicants' community during the voting period. Read their full idea proposal in the idea space.
